Russia has enough uranium for domestic, foreign NPPs for 100 years - Rosatom

Russia has enough uranium to supply for next 100 years domestic and foreign nuclear projects, Russia's national nuclear corporation, Rosatom, said on Saturday.

The corporation's representative Sergei Novikov commented on Australia's possible ban of supplies of uranium to Russia, by saying: "Russia is the world's second largest producer of uranium. The raw materials from Russian and foreign deposits (including those in Kazakhstan) will be sufficient for supplies to Rosatom's both domestic and foreign projects for next 100 years."

Australia's government considers banning uranium supplies to Russia as another extension of the sanctions, the country's Finance Minister Mattias Cormann and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

Australia has the biggest deposits of uranium. In 2007, Russia and Australia signed an inter-governmental agreement on cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy, and in 2012 Russia received the first shipment of Australian uranium.
