NATO supports UN SC resolution calling on all sides in Ukraine to observe Minsk agreements
NATO supports the resolution adopted by UN Security Council (SC) calling on all sides in Ukraine to observe Minsk agreements, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told a meeting of defense ministers of the EU countries in Riga on Wednesday.
Stoltenberg called on Russia to "use its influence" on self-defense forces to secure full implementation of ceasefire and Minsk agreements.
Talking about the situation in Debaltsevo, Stoltenberg stressed that he considers the actions of the self-defense forces there a violation of Minsk agreements.
UN Security Council has unanimously adopted the resolution in support of Minsk agreements on Ukrainian crisis settlement after four-day negotiations. UN SC called on all sides in the Ukrainian conflict to fully observe the ceasefire regime.
The draft resolution was proposed by Russia on February 13. The resolution 2202 calls on all parties "to fully implement the 'Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements', adopted on 12 February 2015 in Minsk, Belarus." The resolution also "welcomed the declaration by the Heads of State of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, France and Germany in support of the 'package of measures' and their continuing commitment to implement the agreements."
UN SC members expressed "grave concern at the tragic events and violence in eastern regions of Ukraine" and reaffirmed their "respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
