Kerry: US, EU discussing sanctions against Ukraine
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry says the United States and the European Union are discussing the possibility of sanctions against Ukraine over the recent violent unrest that has swept the country.
Kerry was speaking during a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in Paris. Fabius said he will now travel to Kiev to hold talks with the foreign ministers of Germany and Poland.
Kerry and Fabius were speaking after at least 26 people died in the worst violence Ukraine has witnessed since the country gained independence.
Earlier, the United States urged the Ukrainian government to pull back riot police from Independence Square in Kiev, call a truce and hold discussions with the opposition.
