PACE passes a draft resolution depriving the Russian delegation to vote until year's end
The PACE Monitoring Committee has passed a draft resolution depriving the Russian delegation of its right to vote at the Assembly until year's end for Russia's incorporation of Crimea, Leonid Slutskiy, the deputy head of the Russian delegation to PACE and the head of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, told journalists on Tuesday.
The move came definitely in a bid to punish Russia for its incorporation of Crimea, Leonid Slutskiy added.
While rejecting a motion to freeze the Russian delegation's powers, as proposed by Britain's Robert Walter, the Committee, in fact, voted for a softer option.
Walter's proposal, however, can still be 'reanimated' in the form of amendments to the draft resolution that PACE will keep receiving until Wednesday, April 9.
PACE will consider a report on the Russian delegation's powers on Thursday, April 10.
