NATO helps Ukraine create its military doctrine – Ukraine's defense minister
NATO experts have helped Ukraine to create its military doctrine, Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak told a US-Ukrainian forum on Friday.
NATO experts took part in preparing this underlying document, which clearly outlines a program of actions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Poltorak said.
Under Ukraine's new military doctrine, approved by President Petro Poroshenko last Thursday, the country's yearly defense spending should account for no less than 3% of the national GDP. The doctrine denounces Ukraine's non-bloc status and provides for the restoration of the country's strategic course towards Euro-Atlantic integration. The document also calls Russia a source of "immediate military threat."
