Ukrainian ultranationalist dies of wounds during special raid of law enforcers
Coordinator of Ukrainian far-right movement Right Sector Oleksandr Muzychko was lethally wounded in a detention raid by the country's law enforcement agencies in western Ukraine, Ukrainian First Deputy Interior Minister Vladimir Yevdokimov told a media briefing in the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday.
In his words, Muzychko put up armed resistance to law enforcers in the detention raid. "Today a special operation was carried out jointly with operatives of the main anti-organised crime department and police commandoes Sokol today. He was found in a village near the western Ukrainian city of Rivne at cafe "Three Crucian Carps" and decided to detain him," Yevdokimov noted. In his words, other three bandits from a gang led by Muzychko nicknamed Sashko Bily were detained in the special operation, an assault rifle Kalashnikov and a pistol Makarov were confiscated.
"After police demands to surrender Bily wanted to run away through the window and opened fire for effect at police commandoes Sokol. The first bullet hit a police commando in the helmet, but ricocheted in the forearm. Muzychko wounded this police commando in shoulder by the second gunshot," the deputy interior minister added. "When he was brought down to the ground, he kept on shooting and was wounded. Physicians found Muzychko dead," the senior police official said.
Muzychko drove with armed bodyguards, changed places of his stay, but law enforcers had traced down his whereabouts and had carried out a special operation to detain and unarm bandits of his gang overnight to March 25.
The deputy interior minister noted that detained gunmen were accused of banditry. "There are a lot of facts of illegal actions," he said. "We realise that regional residents were intimidated, therefore, we address to them now. Now a strong team of detectives and operatives was formed. We are gathering evidence for illegal activity of the detainees so that members of this gang will be held responsible for their offences," the deputy interior minister noted.
The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against Oleksandr Muzychko for participation in combat actions on the side of Chechen warlords Khattab and Basayev against Russian servicemen.
Muzychko and other members of the 'Ukrainian National Assembly -- Ukrainian National Self Defense' (UNA-UNSO) party took part in battles against Russian servicemen during the storm of Grozny and brutally tortured the captives, killing them after that. He is responsible for murders of not less than 20 Russian soldiers.
