Yanukovich is in Kharkov
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich had flown out for Kharkov, where he intended to meet with deputies of the congress of the country's southeastern regions, the Ukrainian National News agency cited the president's advisor Anna Gherman, a parliament member, as saying.
"The Ukrainian president is in Kharkov. He flew out late on Friday. Today he will meet with voters and speak on Kharkov television. The president will not participate in the congress organized in Kharkov," she said.
At the same time, a source at Kharkov airport told Itar-Tass earlier on Saturday that President Viktor Yanukovich's plane had not landed at the airport. Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that the president had flown out for Kharkov to participate in a congress of deputies of southeastern regions, organized by the Ukrainian Front public union. The meeting was planned for this Saturday.
Yanukovich's whereabouts were not known, his representative in the parliament, Yuri Miroshnichenko, said on Saturday.
"I do not know where the head of state is at present. I have no information about his whereabouts," he told reporters, "Yes, I understand that various rumours are spread, there are a lot of emotions," he added.
An unaffiliated deputy Oleg Lyashko when speaking in the parliament also said nobody knew where Yanukovich had gone.
