Ukraine's new PM says tariffs on gas will be twice higher for Ukrainians
Ukraine's government will be forced to increase tariffs on gas due to requirements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the country's newly-appointed Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman said on Wednesday.
"There are commitments signed by the Ukrainian side that the tariffs on gas will be increased to their full market cost. There is no other way. I have no choice," Groysman said in a televised interview on the 24 channel, adding "low or economically unjustified tariffs create an atmosphere for hard corruption."
For providing more loans, the IMF demands from Ukraine to increase tariffs on housing utilities to the economically justified level. Thus, the tariff on electricity is due to double by 2017 in spite of the previous hikes along with tariffs for gas and heating.
