Ukrainian defence ministry: servicemen have lawful right to use weapons
Ukrainian servicemen have every right to "use impact munitions and weapons in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation," the Ukrainian defence ministry said on Thursday.
In line with article 20 of the Internal Service Regulations, servicemen "have the right to employ measures of physical coercion" while performing their duties, the ministry said.
"The use of physical force, impact munitions and weapons is allowed in cases when other measures prove to be inefficient or cannot be used," the ministry noted.
These measures, according to the ministry, "can be used to stop extremist and other unlawful actions of radical groups, to protect law and order, to ensure stability in the state, and to prevent a civil war in Ukraine.
