Transdiestrian authorities enhance control at border with Ukraine
Transdiestria's authorities have enhanced control measures at the border with Ukraine over the current escalation of tensions in the Ukrainian capital city Kiev.
"These measures have been taken to prevent possible attempts to smuggle arms and munitions," Transdiestrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk said in his decree on Thursday.
Last night, a passenger bus en route from Tiraspol to Russia's St. Petersburg was attacked by armed men in Ukraine's Cherkassy region, the press service of the Transdienstrian leader reported. Following this incident, Transdniestria's transport authorities suspended bus service to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev.
The incident took place near the settlement of Mankovka, where locals organized a self-styled check point. "Unidentified persons stopped the bus having thrown a Molotov cocktail at it. When the driver put out the fire, they demanded he drive back to Transdniestria," said Vladimir Trandasir, the head of Transdniestria's Transport Service.
