Number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine reaches 117,000
Number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine has reached 117,000, 168,000 fled to Russia, said the UN Refugee Agency on Tuesday.
Most of these internally displaced persons (87%) who left their homes but did not cross the state border are natives of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions - 102,600.
Over the last seven days alone, 6,200 left their homes.
According to the UN, those who flee the violence face increasing difficulties - the infrastructure is destroyed, banks are closed, water supplies are interrupted, many homes in the area are partly or entirely destroyed.
A total of 2,700 Ukrainians asked for international protection in European countries, the agency said.
