Donetsk self-defense forces ready to give corridor for OSCE to MH17 crash spot
Authorities of the self-proclaimed unrecognized Donetsk People's Republic have confirmed their full preparedness for an earliest and fullest possible establishing of circumstances of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, which came down on the territory of the much-troubled war-torn region Thursday afternoon while on a transit flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
"We're highly interested in an unbiased and full investigation and are prepared to give unrestricted access to the spot of the crash for experts of the CIS Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC)," the Donetsk Republic's Prime Minister Alexander Borodai said.
The case in hand it the talks that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is conducting for the purpose of arranging a corridor to the site of the crash for its inspectors. Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office said in Geneva he hopes the experts will get control of the flight recorder, which is currently in the hands of East-Ukrainian self-defense units.
To assure safe access to the site of the crash, it is important to stop armed fighting in that part of the Donetsk region. In the meantime, a Ukrainian military grouping is kept in encirclement by self-defense units there at present.
Alexander Borodai also said that the self-defense forces were ready to sign a truce agreement with Ukraine for investigating the circumstances of the crash. However, the Donetsk Republic's top military commander Igor Strelkov said he did not see any sense in a truce and Borodai's proposal was not rational.
"A commission can freely come there and examine the site of the crash and no one will put up obstacles to it," he said.
In the meantime, the pro-Kiev Donetsk Regional State Administration has set up a staff of its own to take care of the problems related to the jet's disaster. A spokesman for the staff said the bodies of the dead would most likely be taken for identification to Kharkov or the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.
