Russian border checkpoint damaged by shell pieces on border with Ukraine
Russia's Federal Security Service said that Russian border checkpoint Gukovo had been damaged by pieces of shells on the state border with Ukraine. Shells were fired from Ukraine during gunfire that lasted all night long from Ukrainian multi-way automobile border-crossing point Chervonopartizansk.
An OSCE observer mission is planned to be deployed at border checkpoint Gukovo soon.
"Shells did not hit Russian territory and did not explode there. However, several buildings were damaged by pieces of shells. Border guards were staying on duty and kept fulfilling tasks to protect the state border," chief press officer of the Federal Security Service border service Vasily Malayev told ITAR-TASS.
No pieces of shells, but even projectiles and mines hit Russian territory from Ukraine. Russian Defense Ministry said that nine cases of shelling were reported on Russian territory from Ukraine in June and July. Most massive gunfire took place on July 25, when 40 shells fired from Ukraine exploded in the border town of Primiussky in Russia's southern Rostov region.
