Russia opens criminal case over kidnapping, torturing of Russian citizen in Ukraine

Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over kidnapping and torturing of a Russian citizen in Ukraine, spokesman of Russian Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin told ITAR-TASS on Tuesday.

"Investigation department of Russian Investigative Committee in the Southern Federal District opened a criminal case for kidnapping and torturing of a person," Markin said.

According to investigators, Russian national Artyom Mikhailenko was detained on June 19 at a checkpoint on his way from Russia's Rostov region, bordering on Ukraine, to the eastern Ukrainian Luhansk region, and was held in captivity until June 27. He was being tortured into confessing to his alleged cooperation with the Russian Armed Forces. Then the abductors brought him to woodland and left there. The man managed to get back to the Rostov region.
