Moscow hopes for talks with Ukraine border guards on presence at checkpoints
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday voiced hope for direct bilateral consultations on Ukrainian observers' presence at Russian border-crossing points.
"We hope that direct substantive consultations will kick off as soon as possible between Russian and Ukrainian border guards in order to agree parameters of border observers' presence at Russian border-crossing points," Lavrov said.
He was informing the public about the results of a phone conference involving the heads of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine.
Lavrov said that Moscow is ready to submit soon to the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) a draft resolution "authorizing the presence of OSCE monitors at Russian checkpoints, which will make it possible to control the transparency and non-use of these points with illegal purposes.
