Mayor Sergei Sobyanin: Moscow prepares a relief convoy for Sevastopol

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on March 11 that the first humanitarian relief convoy will leave Moscow for Sevastopol in the next few days while some equipment and vehicles would be dispatched later.

"A humanitarian relief column that will go to Sevastopol will be formed (in Moscow) soon. However, we still have to buy some sustainable items such as machinery and equipment which will be dispatched later," the mayor said.

Under a Moscow government resolution passed on March 11, Moscow's relief cargo to Sevastopol will include 30 buses and trolley-buses, 15 garbage collection and street-cleaning vehicles, 30 sets of computer classes with interactive displays, 20 tons of medical supplies and 500-600 pieces of medical equipment.

Actions to support and raise funds for the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine, including Crimea, have been under way in Russia since March 2. The first support rallies were organised by patriotic youth and veteran organizations. They assembled tens of thousands people in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar in southern Russia as well as Belgorod, Bryansk, Novocherkassk, Rostov-on-Don, etc.
