Actions in support of Russian compatriots in Ukraine held in Moscow, Petersburg, Krasnodar
Mass actions in support of Russian-speakers in Ukraine are held on Sunday in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Krasnodar.
The Russian motorbike club Night Wolves launched a motor rally in Moscow in support of Crimean residents. The rally involved about 50 motor cars and motorbikes. Another motor rally under the moto "We Don't Forsake Our Guys" started on Moscow's Vorobyevy Hills. The two rallies are expectd to merge together later in the day.
At 17:00 Moscow time, representatives from patriotic youth and veteran organizations will begin a march under the moto People's Assembly for the Brotherly People from Moscow's central Pushkin Square.
"We must consolidate to support out compatriots," a representative from the actions' organizing committee told Itar-Tass. "What has happed in the recent days must be on the conscience of provokers who are seeking to seize power in the entire Ukraine, who are taking illegitimate decisions. But they have nothing in common with Ukraine's people - neither they, not those who are instigating them from oversees."
About 15,000 people gathered in a square in front of the Oktybrsky concert hall in the centre of St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city, for a rally in support of Ukraine's Russian-speaking population and servicemen from Ukraine's riot police Berkut. "The key idea of the rally is to express indignation at the way Ukraine's Russian-speaking population is being treated in that country and to voice support to the decision of Russia's Federation Council upper parliament house [that agreed the use of Russian troops in Ukraine," a spokesman for the rally's organizers told Itar-Tass.
A march in support of Russian compatriots in Ukraine will be held later on Sunday in the Russian southern city of Krasnodar.
