Russian Foreign Ministry: Ukraine is becoming mass grave of journalists
Ukraine is becoming a mass grave of journalists and journalism, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on Wednesday on her Facebook page in connection with the murder of journalist Pavel Sheremet in Kiev.
"He was a professional who was not afraid to tell different authorities at different times all that he thinks of them. He was respected for that," she stated. "Ukraine (not the country, but the system) is becoming a mass grave of journalists and journalism."
Prominent journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed in a car bombing in downtown Kiev on Wednesday morning. Kiev's police have preliminarily assessed the incident as a premeditated murder.
Over the past five years, Sheremet has lived in Kiev, working in the Ukrainskaya Pradva newspaper and as an anchorman on the Vesti radio.
Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko has ordered law enforcement agencies to immediately investigate the case.
Ukraine's Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko said that the crime would defeintely be solved. "I will do everything I can to solve the crime together with colleagues," he noted.
