Russian Justice Ministry gets query on documents for turnover of Ukrainian pilot Savchenko
The Russian Justice Ministry has received a query on the documents necessary for the turnover to Ukraine of the former military pilot Nadezhda (Nadiya) Savchenko, a spokesperson for the ministry told TASS on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, it received by fax a query from the Ukrainian Justice Ministry regarding the documents that would be needed for examination of a possibility of Savchenko's transfer to Ukraine where she would supposedly continue serving her jail term.
Kiev issued the query on the basis of the 1983 Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.
The final say on Savchenko's turnover to Ukraine belongs to the Russian court.
"The international treaty [on the transfer or sentenced persons] doesn't specify the duration of scrutiny of queries by relevant agencies of signatory countries," the spokesperson said.
