Kremlin condemns violence in Kiev, says such actions are unacceptable — spokesman

The Kremlin condemns an outbreak of violence in Kiev and believes such actions are inadmissible, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Regarding the events that took place in Kiev, I can say that we are naturally concerned about these manifestations of violence," he said. "Of course, we condemn these manifestations of violence, we believe they are unacceptable."

Peskov withheld comment, speaking about the amendments to Ukraine's Constitution that have been passed by the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading. "For the time being, I will refrain from commenting on the issue. We need some more time," he said. The Kremlin spokesman noted that "in any case, we consider everything that is taking place there to be Ukraine's internal affair."

More than 20 people have sustained gunshot wounds during the clashes near Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health reported on Monday.

"As of 17:05 44 persons (civilians and law enforcers) who suffered on August 31, 2015, following the clashes between protesters and law enforcers near Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada applied for medical assistance to medical emergency teams," the report says.

Earlier on Monday, more than 3,000 opponents of amending the Ukrainian Constitution from various regions picketed the parliament building, where the voting was underway on the draft amendments to the Ukrainian Constitution. Then an unknown protester from the crowd threw a grenade at the police cordon near the parliament building.

According to the Interior Ministry, 122 people were injured in the clashes near Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, more than 10 police officers are in grave condition, a National Guard fighter was killed.
