Anti-terrorist committee says no state of emergency in Pyatigorsk after car bomb blast
Russia's anti-terrorist committee has said that no decisions have been made to impose a state of emergency in the southern resort city of Pyatigorsk following a car bomb explosion on Friday evening, which claimed three lives.
"Media reports about a state of emergency in Pyatigorsk have nothing to do with the reality," the national anti-terrorist committee said.
Pyatigorsk's Mayor Lev Travnev said on the Russia-24 television news channel earlier on Friday the city authorities had held a special meeting of the emergency situations committee.
"We are introducing a state of emergency," Travnev said.
Earlier, the city's civil defence and emergency situations centre said Mayor Travnev had urgently left for the crime scene, the emergency situations committee met in session and a group to evaluate the material damage had been formed.
The city authorities said no evacuation of the population was held.
