Contacts and joint activity with NATO should be stopped so far -- CSTO head
It is necessary so far to stop the work for the establishment of contacts and joint activity with NATO in view of the organization's position on the Ukrainian crisis, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Bordyuzha said on Thursday during a live linkup between Moscow, Astana and Chisinau.
"I think that we'll so far stop any efforts for the establishment of contacts and joint activity with NATO, taking into account the position taken by the North Atlantic Alliance in the period of the Ukrainian crisis," the CSTO head said.
He added that in the foreign political sphere the CSTO should in the current circumstances strengthen co-operation with the Shanghai Co-operation Organization (SCO). "I believe that we should intensify cooperation with China in the joint work to counter challenges and threats, with Iran, especially in the sphere of illicit trafficking in drugs," Bordyuzha said.
He also stressed that the CSTO was entering into cooperation in the Asian region with other international structures that specialize in security issues.
