French, Russian presidents concerned over worsening humanitarian crisis in Ukraine
President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Francois Hollande in a telephone conversation Tuesday have expressed serious concern over continuing degradation of the situation in Ukraine and worsening of humanitarian problems in the southeast, the Kremlin press service said.
Both presidents stressed the importance of rendering humanitarian assistance to the peaceful population of Ukraine and gave priority importance to ending military operations there, it said.
"Putin told the French president about concrete steps Russia has taken to establish conacts with ICRC represenatives. Both presidents reiterated priorioty importance of ending military operations in Ukraine and reaching soonest political settlement of Ukranian home problems," the source said.
The two presidents also touched upon the situation in Iraq and in Gaza and came out for building up international efforts for settlement of these pressing problems, it said.
The Russian president also cordially wished happy birthday to Francois Hollande, who turned 60 on Tuesday.
