About 30,000 troops of Russia's Eastern Military District take part in snap checks
Around 30,000 servicemen and over 7,000 units of military hardware have been involved in a sudden inspection of the Eastern Military District, aimed to gage the progress made in the winter training period.
The inspection was crowned by a large-scale exercise led by the military district's commander, Sergey Surovikin, Eastern Military District Spokesman Alexander Gordeyev told TASS on Friday.
"Numerous training events [as part of the inspection] have spanned two weeks at combined-arms, naval and aerial training areas in the district. Around 30,000 troops and over 7,000 items of combat and special hardware have been used in them, including Pacific Fleet submarines, surface combatants and support vessels, over 60 fighters, bombers and attack planes and more than 50 attack and troop-carrying/attack helicopters," he said.
In all, the inspection of the Eastern Military District comprised 12 joint tactical exercises, three tactical flight trainings and a counterterrorist exercise, with about 100,000 troops have been an appraisal based on their performance in the surprise inspection, Gordeyev added.
