Large-scale electronic warfare exercise to be held in Trans-Baikal region

Electronic warfare units of Russia's Eastern Military District stationed in the trans-Baikal region of Buryatia begin a large-scale exercise focusing on combat employment of electronic warfare instruments, Alexander Gordeyev, the chief of the press service of the district said.

"More than 200 men and about 30 special vehicles will be engaged in field training on the Burduny testing range," he said.

The participating men and officers have made a many-kilometers-long march from the point of deployment to the testing range where they set up a field camp. They are expected now to perform a range of tasks like the unfolding of the EW systems, organizing twenty-four-hour alert, direction finding of radio-electronic output sources, and jamming of the maneuver enemy's telecommunications systems.

"The servicemen will upgrade their professional skills in operating the top-notch EW complexes Borisoglebsk-2 and Rtut-BM recently entered in the tables of equipment," Gordeyev said.

The field training will take up thirty days and will be culminated with tests in the handling of specialized technologies.

The final item on the itinerary is an amassed specialized tactical exercise, in the course of which the EW units will support a mechanized infantry battalion on the offensive and in defense.
