Germany expects Russia will coordinate new aid convoy with Ukraine, ICRC

Germany expects the new humanitarian convoy Russia plans to send to Ukraine's embattled southeast will be coordinated with the Kiev authorities and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a top government official said on Monday.

"We assume that this convoy will be coordinated with the ICRC and the Ukrainian government," deputy government spokesman Georg Streiter said.

Earlier on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia planned the same route for the next humanitarian convoy which is to set off towards the Ukrainian border already this week.

Lavrov also said Russia had sent a note to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the International Committee of the Red Cross informing them of the new convoy, attaching a detailed list of the cargo planned for dispatch.

The first humanitarian convoy of some 270 KamAZ trucks carrying 2,000 tons of aid arrived in Luhansk on August 22. The trucks safely returned to Russia on the following day.

Lavrov said the distribution of the food, water, medicines and other supplies delivered by the first convoy began in Luhansk on Monday with the participation of the Red Cross mission.
