Criminal case opened over attack on police in North Caucasus' Dagestan


A criminal case was opened over an attack on policemen in the city of Derbent , Russian North Caucasian Republic of Dagestan. The criminal case is being investigated for an attempt on the life of a law enforcer and illegal circulation of weapons committed by a criminal group.

"Police have stopped a car VAZ-2114 at 50, General Saidov Street in the city of Derbent on Saturday. Two young people in the car have made several gunshots at policemen," an official of the Dagestani investigative department of the Russian Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Sunday. "A 32-year-old senior police sergeant has got a shoulder bullet wound and was taken to the hospital. Attackers were killed in the return fire," the official said, adding that the bandits are identified.

"Investigative actions are being taken to find all details of the crime and killed gunmen are being checked for involvement in other grave and heinous crimes," the committee official said.

Meanwhile, the official added that a group of detectives started working with dawn at the place of a special operation in Kollektivnaya Street in the city of Derbent on Saturday. Three killed gunmen in that special operation are being identified.

The National Anti-Terrorism Committee said earlier that five gunmen who had prepared to stage terrorist acts on May holidays were killed in a special operation against particularly dangerous criminals from the "southern" terrorist gang in the city of Derbent.
