State border between Crimea and Ukraine to open on April 25
Andrei Panov, the acting head of Crimea's border service, told journalists on Monday that the state border between Crimea and Ukraine would start functioning on April 25.
"At present, Crimea's border service has 27 checkpoints. It has opened another three automobile checkpoints and two more railway checkpoints in Armyansk and Dzhankoi," Panov noted. "We are starting to work legally and in full volume on April 25," Panov said, adding the situation on the border was calm. "We are not imposing any restrictions. We hope that our Ukrainian colleagues will act accordingly," Panov went on to say.
Pyotr Yarosh, Crimea's acting Federal Migration Service chief, confirmed that the border with Ukraine was opening on April 25. Yarosh said border crossing rules and the issuance of migration cards would be part of the agenda at a meeting to be chaired by Vice-Premier Olga Kovitidi on Monday. "We are also going to discuss how residents of Crimea who are registered in the territory of the peninsula but have not yet received Russian passports should cross the border," Yarosh added.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has threatened to shut Ukraine's border with Russia, according to Ukraine's acting Deputy Foreign Minister Daniil Lyubkivskiy. "Today, we are witnessing tensions in the east and south of Ukraine," Lyubkivskiy said, promising to use diplomatic instruments for settling the crisis.
