Russian army completes water pipeline system construction in Crimea

The Russian army's logistics units have completed laying a system of trunk pipelines designed to provide the Crimean peninsula with fresh water, Deputy Defense Minister, Army General Dmitry Bulgakov said on Tuesday.

"Overall, pipeline-laying units of the Western and Eastern Military Districts have assembled 48 lines of the pipeline with the total length of 412.4 km [256 miles]," the deputy defense minister said.

Pipeline-laying battalions of separate logistics brigades from the Western and Eastern Military Districts involving about 500 servicemen and 200 pieces of equipment worked in Crimea, the deputy defense minister said.

"By today, over 0.5 million cubic meters of fresh water have been delivered," the general said.

From May to November last year, units of the logistics brigade from the Western Military District supplied over 700,000 cubic meters of drinking water from artesian wells to dozens of Crimean communities via pipelines, the deputy defense minister said.

At that time, Russian army logistics units laid field water trunk pipelines more than 125 km (78 miles) long, he said.
