Simferopol, Sevastopol and Moscow mark Crimea's re-unification with Russia with fireworks
Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov on Friday thanked the people of Crimea and all Russians for their support in the past few weeks.
"We have achieved it ourselves. I would like to thank you for backing us up in the most difficult moment," Aksyonov said from the stage during a concert held on Lenin Square in the center of Simferopol, the capital of Crimea.
"Thanks to you, we have obtained confidence and courage. I would like to thank Russian President Vladimir Putin and all Russians who stood by our side backing us up morally and physically when we needed that," Aksyonov said, thanking Crimean self-defense units for courage and bravery.
"I am sure that we are going to live in a new country, a country in which our fathers and forefathers wanted to live and of which they dreamed. We have deserved that," the Crimean prime minister said.
After that, 30 salvos were fired into the skies over Simferopol to mark Crimea's re-unification with Russia following a decree by President Putin.
Simultaneous fireworks took place in the port city of Sevastopol and Moscow.
