Crimea does not expect speedy resumption of electricity supplies from Ukraine

The Crimean authorities at the moment do not count on the resumption of electricity supplies from Ukraine and are preparing for the worst-case scenario, Crimea's First Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Sheremet told TASS on Wednesday.

"If they (the Ukrainian side) resume the supplies, we will be grateful for that. But so far we do not expect this. We count only on our own resources and domestic electricity generation," Sheremet said.

Crimean Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov earlier ordered to mobilize all forces and prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Some media reported citing representatives of Ukraine's energy company that electricity supplies to Crimea could be partially restored on Wednesday evening.

Crimea was left without power on November 22. A few hours later the authorities imposed the emergency situation regime. Crimea's electric power system is currently operating in the autonomous mode, the domestic generation meets only half of the peninsula's needs. To save power Crimea is using rolling blackouts. According to Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, the first stage of the power bridge between Russia's Krasnodar region and Crimea will be commissioned on December 20.
