Representative of Crimean Tatar People appointed vice-speaker of Crimean parliament

Remzi Ilysaov, a representative of the Mejilis of the Crimean Tatar People, was appointed vice-speaker of Crimea's State Council (parliament) after deputies introduced an additional vice-speaker's post.

"We have long insisted that Ilyasov be appointed to leading posts in the Crimean parliament and get involved in the law-making activities. Our law-making processes are dynamic and the absence of Mejilis representatives from them would be wrong in our view," Vladimir Konstantinov, the speaker of the Crimean State Council, told journalists on Wednesday.

Remzi Ilyasov headed the permanent Commission for Inter-Ethnic relations and Deported Citizens until February 2013 when he was replaced by a former Mejilis deputy, Enver Abduraimov.

In October 2013, Ilyasov lost elections for the post of the Mejilis chairman to Refat Chubarov by 12 votes out of the required 240.

Konstantinov praised Ilyasov's appointment to the post of vice-speaker of the Crimean State Council.

"I consider it to be a good sign. We will start searching for collective solutions of the problems of Crimean Tatars," State Council Speaker Vladimir Konstantinov said in conclusion.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin who met representatives of Crimean Tatars in Sochi last Friday, on May 16, hoped that his decree on rehabilitation of Crimean Tatars would lay down the foundation for their progressive development, while further rehabilitation would continue as part of the federal target programme for Crimea's development.
