Chinese FM: China, Russia move towards greater strategic partnership
The latest meeting between Russia's and China's heads of states has become an important step towards deepening relations of strategic partnership between the two countries, making it possible to expand bilateral cooperation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said on Friday.
He said the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, held on Thursday in the Russian city of Sochi, took place in a friendly atmosphere. The two leaders discussed guidelines for interaction in 2014, both in bilateral relations and on the international scene.
"Agreements on cooperation in gas and oil spheres, nuclear energy, electric power, aircraft building, telecommunications, academic exchange and a number of other fields are of major importance for both sides," Hong said.
"Co-operation on the most pressing issues of international significance will also remain an essential part of Russian-Chinese relations. Successful coordination of our countries' efforts has contributed to removing the threat of chemical weapons' use in Syria," he added. "Russia and China will continue coordinating their positions to maintain stability and assure international security in the future."
