Editor-in-Chief promises RT will carry on with its work despite UK bank account freeze
RT will seek ways to continue its work despite the channel's bank accounts being closed in the UK, the TV channel's Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan told TASS on Monday.
"We believe that it is an absolutely political decision, this is obvious, no one in their right mind can consider it to be anything else," she said. "Neither the fiscal regulators, nor the bank, nor whoever is linked to financial and economic issues, has ever made any complaints. Our activities have been clear and transparent," Simonyan stressed.
However, there have always been a lot of claims such as "why do you tell everyone that Jabhat al-Nusra (terrorist group outlawed in Russia) has been shelling civilian dwelling areas in Aleppo causing children to die? Don't say anything about that, it does not correspond with our stories. This is why they are now trying to drive us out of the country, close the channel, deprive us of the opportunity to work, but we will work all the same, we'll seek ways to do that," RT's chief editor said.
Earlier on Monday Simonyan said in a post on her Twitter feed that bank accounts of the Russian broadcaster, RT, had been closed in the UK. "Our banks accounts in the UK have been closed. All the accounts. 'The decision would not be subject to review." Long live freedom of speech!" she commented.
