ICRC praises Russia's role in delivering humanitarian aid to Syria

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) appreciates Russia's role in promoting efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Syrian population, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday following meeting between Russian presidential envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and ICRC Regional Director for the Middle East Robert Mardini.

"ICRC representatives spoke highly of Russia's role, including within the framework of the work with other members of the International Syria Support Group and the Syrian government to assist international efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged inhabited localities in Syria in accordance with the provisions of resolutions 2254 and 2268 of the UN Security Council," the ministry said.

Bogdanov and Mardini discussed an array of humanitarian aspects of the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, including in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya. "Both sides pointed to the pressing need to ensure conditions for unhampered delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy population in all crisis areas of the region," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
