Turkish army responds to fire from Syria

The Turkish army said Friday that it had responded to fire coming from the Syrian side on the previous day in keeping with its rules of engagement.

"The Turkish army fired at predetermined targets near Syria's Tal-Khalaf village with machine guns as part of the rules of engagement," said a statement released by General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces.

A Turkish citizen in Ceylanpinar was wounded by a stray bullet from the Syrian village of Tal-Khalaf, southwest of Ras al-Ain, which has been the scene of fierce clashes between Kurdish Democratic Union (PYD) militants and al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front fighters, the statement said.

Also, the Turkish Armed Forces dispatched soldiers and tanks to the border with Syria.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Friday that his country will respond immediately to any Syrian threat on its border security just as the military has already done in recent months.

"From now on, we will give necessary response to any threat, regardless of whatever group it comes from," Davutoglu said.

On Wednesday, Turkey returned fire into the Syrian territory after shots from the Syrian side which killed one Turkish citizen and seriously wounded two others.
