Gazprom: Nord Stream 2 will strengthen Austrian Baumgarten's positions as EU's key gas hub
Chairman of Russia's gas giant Gazprom Alexey Miller and Austrian Finance Minister Hans Joerg Schelling have discussed the state of the European gas market within a working meeting at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF-2016), the company reported Saturday. The demand for imported gas is likely to persist amid the current decline of production, Gazprom said.
"In this respect the participants of the meeting notes the importance of the creation of new direct gas transmission routes from Russia to Europe. Particularly, the meeting focused on implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project. It was stressed out that the gas pipeline will strengthen Baumgarten's positions as the key European gas distribution center," the report said.
Russian gas supplies to Austria have grown by 19% since the start of this year till June 15, 2016 - from 1.6 to 1.9 bln cubic meters - compared with the same period last year.
