Germany demands extraordinary conference on Russian food imports embargo
Agriculture Minister of Germany's Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Till Backhaus on Monday called for an extraordinary conference of the country's federal states to discuss Russia's embargo on food imports from Western countries and its consequences.
"The sanctions hit the whole Germany. That is why the states and the federal government must urgently assess the scale of Russia's sanctions for the German economy and decide what can be done in response to the changing market conditions," Backhaus said.
The Russian import restrictions will affect Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania more than other federal states as almost all of the German cheese supplied to Russia is made at its factories.
