Iran and Venezuela discuss bilateral cooperation, international issues
The Presidents of Iran and Venezuela, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez, signed in Caracas a political declaration and a number of agreements on developing economic cooperation between the two countries.
According to an IRNA report, the presidents in a joint declaration advocate forming a multi-polar world and reforming the UNO so it ensures the sovereignty and security of all its member countries, without exclusion.
Iran and Venezuela have also established a fund of $2bn for the realization of projects in the oil, petrochemical, mechanical engineering, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in the fields of culture and education.
A ceremony of awarding Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a top state award of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was held late Sep 17.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hugo Chavez unequivocally supported the right of Iran to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
The Venezuelan leader also expressed support of the anti-imperialist and anti-colonial policy of Iran and the firm position of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regarding the US politics in the international arena.
"Venezuela is ready to support Iran in case the US attacks the Islamic Republic," Hugo Chavez announced.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad promised to support Venezuela’s claim for UN Security Council membership.
