Iranian leader says Chavez his "brother and comrade-in-arms"
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was his "brother and comrade in arms".
Chavez expressed hope that Iran and Venezuela would continue to be allies in the fight against imperialism."
The governmental delegations of the two countries are now conducting negotiations. Chavez is being accompanies on his trip by the ministers of oil, information, science and technology.
Bilateral economic cooperation, primarily in the energy sector, will top the agenda of Chavez’s talks with Iranian leaders.
Chavez and Ahmadinejad will hold several rounds of talks and may sign several agreements.
Chavez will also meet with businessmen at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, visit a machine-building plant and attend the opening ceremony for a new Venezuelan embassy in Tehran.
Chavez will also be awarded the highest Iranian order.
Initially the visit was supposed to begin on Friday evening but Chavez stayed longer in Qatar and arrived in Tehran almost with a 24-hour delay.
