US attorney denounced publicly that the US intends to increase its military presence in Curazao
US attorney and researcher Eva Golinger, denounced publicly Tuesday that the US intends to increase its military presence in Curazao, facing Venezuela, with the opening of a naval base, besides the air base it already possesses there.
In an interview with Prensa Latina, Golinger stated that politicians, activists, journalists and union members with whom she met in Havana -which she left Monday- are well aware of that US purpose.
"Everyone knows it: the US government is engaged in talks to install a naval base, besides the air facility it possesses," declared the author of "El Codigo Chavez" (The Chavez Code), based on declassified documents of US interventions in Venezuela.
She said Washington plans to build the military base near facilities of State-run PDVSA oil, on the portion of Curacao only 31 miles from Venezuela.
Attempting to control the social, political and economic life of Curacao, US groups are investing in infrastructure and strategically-important business for that island, said the lawyer, who also referred to the increase of US ships in the Antilles in 2006, according to some sources.
The US opened an Advanced Operation Center in Curazao in May 1999, together with others in Aruba and in Manta, Ecuador, after operations monitoring the Caribbean and South America from Howard Base in Panama were ended.
Eva Golinger asserted that the military bases in Aruba and Curacao "can be used to launch an aggression against Venezuela."
