Communiqué on the murder of Pedro Magdiel Muñoz Salvador.
The Committee of Relatives of the Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH) expresses to the national and international communities its repudiation of the repression unleashed by the de facto government of Roberto Micheletti, which has now claimed its sixth fatal victim since the coup d’etat perpetrated in the early morning of 28th. June against the constitutional president of the Republic Manuel Zelaya Rosales.
COFADEH condemns the misinformation circulated under the media siege, which is controlled by the supporters of the coup, by means of which they have tried to portray the violent death of the youth Pedro Magdiel Muñoz Salvador as not directly connected with the repressive actions of the military and the police.
There are sufficient witnesses who support the version of events in which police agents captured Pedro Magdiel Muñoz Salvador and drove him to a police station in El Paraíso.
Muñoz Salvador voluntarily joined the National Front of Resistance against the coup d’etat at the time of its inception, and made up part of the commission of discipline of the organisation.
COFADEH denounces the fact that many other youths who are currently in resistance to the coup d’etat are being persecuted by paramilitary groups financed by the de facto regime. The lives of these youths, and of all those involved in the National Front of Resistance against the coup d’etat, are in danger.
We demand the cease of the repression and the persecution implemented by the military and the police, the immediate removal of the military patrols who prevent the free circulation of people, and the right to freedom of experssion, consigned in article 72 of the Constitution of the Republic.
We demand the restablishment of the individual and collective rights of all Honduran citizens which are guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic, and we condemn the state of permanent siege ordered by the de facto government of Roberto Micheletti.
We urge all the human rights organisations in Honduras and the rest of the world to revive solidarity, and condemn the acts of violation of human rights that the Honduran population is suffering.
COFADEH condemns the attack perpetrated by paramilitary groups financed by the supporters of the coup, who detonated an explosive device this morning in the Beverage Workers Union (STIBYS) headquarters, where the General Coordination of the National Front of Resistance takes place.
COFADEH will report the details of the events in the STIBYS headquarters in the coming hours through their Disclosure and Press department.
No more victims of the repression implemented by the same people of the past!
Neither forgetting nor pardoning the actions and the perpetrators!
COFADEH
