FSB detains in the Stavropol territory officer suspected of gathering information for Georgia
A Russian officer suspected of gathering classified information for Georgia has been detained in the Stavropol territory, the press service of the Federal Security Service told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"The FSB detained Mikhail Khachidze, a native of Georgia, who was a senior officer of the Russian army, on suspicion of spying for Georgia. Khachidze was detained in a town in the Stavropol territory," the press service said.
"According to the available information, Khachidze was recruited in Georgia in late 2007. During his service at a military unit of the North Caucasus Military District, he was gathering classified information on Russian armed forces, the combat readiness of military units, and composed personal files on his colleagues.
"The FSB investigation department opened a criminal case under Article 275 of Russia's Criminal Code (high treason). Investigators obtained incontrovertible proof of his spying during the probe," the FSB said.
