Number of Ebola cases hits 17,500

---

The number of Ebola cases in West Africa has exceeded 17,500, the Russian consumer watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Monday.

"According to the World Health Organization, 17,551 people have been infected with Ebola in West Africa, while the death toll has reached 6,202," the watchdog said.

Among those infected are 622 health workers, Rospotrebnadzor said adding that 346 of them had died.
